2001 Issue 02: WHY WAIT FOR HEAVEN?

Dear Reader

You know how, sometimes, when you read something, a lot of little ideas that have been buzzing about in your mind in a relatively disconnected fashion all suddenly come together and fall into place? Well, that’s what happened to us when we read Elizabeth von Arnim's novel, The Enchanted April. We thought:

Why wait for heaven?
Why wait until after we are dead for such an experience of lightness and heightened vibration, and all the illumination it brings? There are so many little things in everyday life – a bright blue sky, a blackbird singing, a beautiful landscape, a gorgeous piece of music, a lovely face – that can open the door of our hearts so that higher vibrations of joy, peace and gratitude can rush in.

These moments of upliftment are often so easily overlooked, or thought of merely as small islands of momentary pleasure amidst a stormy sea of duty and difficulty we have to sail doggedly across, come what may. But their potential is far more than that.

If only we were to become more aware of what these moments of joy and gratitude are actually doing to us, we would see how, at least for a time, these higher vibrations simply evaporate all those worries and burdens we normally spend our whole life struggling with, and how they enable us to see our problems from the wide, eternal perspective of heaven, rather than the narrow, short-sighted perspective of earth.

If we just took the time, during our precious moments of beauty, to observe this magical transformation happening - and to appreciate it, permit it, and nurture it - we could spread our wings and rise on those precious moments just as a seagull does on a current of air.

Then these higher moments - rather than our everyday cares and duties - could become the thread with which our lives are woven together. Then self-transformation would not have to be a battle. And we would know from experience that, when we open ourselves to a higher vibration, that vibration itself cleans away what's not necessary, and our job then becomes one of allowing, rather than doing.

Then we still need as much as we can muster of the ‘three p's’ - patience, perseverance and positivity - but we don't any longer need that ‘Mrs Mop’ attitude! It's not we who are doing the work. The Higher is doing the work. What we are doing is letting it, and getting out of the way.

With much love from all of us,

Geoff, Ann, Jackie, Derek, Martyn, Jackie M, Sue,Samantha, Regina, Jon, Sam, Bertel, Sandra, Pat, Karena, Louisa, Mary, Emma, Em and Belinda.
