2003 Issue 09: ALLOW NATURE TO TEACH YOU STILLNESS

‘Allow nature to teach you stillness.’ Eckhart Tolle, ‘Stillness Speaks’

‘Walking is essential for the health of the planet. The body releases physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual energy which the plants and animals eat.’ Joseph Rael, ‘House of Shattering Light’

‘Just as a radio receives electromagnetic waves and transforms them into sound waves, so the human being receives the grace and love of God and transforms it, as a eucharistic act, into the action of love.’ John Martin Sahajananda, ‘You Are the Light’

Dear Friends,

‘Allow nature to teach you stillness.’ What a beautiful sentence! What a simple, natural thing to do – to sit at the feet of nature, the greatest teacher there is, and listen silently to her while she speaks to us of the great Stillness, in which all wisdom is contained. In moments of solitude, in the open air, we sometimes find it possible to do this. The simple sight of a leaf, the smell of damp soil or the sound of birdsong, is all it takes to fill our hearts with gratitude, adoration, devotion and love – our offering to nature. And how quickly she responds, filling us with a great wave of joy and peace profound.

Often, when we've been out walking, we've had the idea that this outflow and inflow of love and bliss is far more than just a pleasant experience – that it feeds and transforms our higher bodies in just the same way as food feeds our physical bodies. And we've also had the idea that, at the same time as we are being fed with the bread of heaven, we are giving this holy food – to the earth beneath our feet, and to the plants and creatures around us, raising their energy at the same time as ours is being raised.... Which actually makes entering the Stillness as often as possible quite an important thing to do, not only for ourselves, but also for the planet.

As Eckhart Tolle says, ‘it is inner stillness that will save and transform the world’.

With much love from all of us.
