Dear Friends,
We really liked the directness of the following passage, which we found in Peace to All Beings by Judy Carman:
The Elegant Simplicity of the Divine Will The Divine Will: In four words: Be Love With Me In three words: Love One Another In two words: Love All In one word: Love Simply Love
Dr Martin Luther King, Jr, said, ‘This Hindu-Muslim-Christian-Jewish-Buddhist belief about ultimate reality is beautifully summed up in the first epistle of Saint John: Let us love one another, for love is God.’ And as we know, ‘one anothers’ are not just human beings.
God is not ‘up there’ somewhere saying, ‘I wish they'd hurry up and have world peace. That's what I've wanted all along.’ God is not frustrated and upset that we're still waging war and eating animals and destroying the environment and thinking, ‘Why can't they just stop fighting and be nice?'
God is a dynamic energy stream of Pure Unconditional Love that is courting each one of us, wooing us, tantalizing us with moments of epiphany when, for a slice in time, we gasp in wonder at the immensity and power of the Truth. The Truth is that we are one with that energy stream of Love. We are made of It. It is in our every cell. We are one with all creation. Once we understand that fully and completely, we cannot live from any place but love. Then, our will becomes the Creator's will; the Divine will; the burning desire for the Highest Good. World peace and reverence for all life are simply natural outcomes of our living in Divinity, visible symptoms of all of us being Love itself. Our inner, higher will and the Divine will are one. And really, isn't our will already aligned with Divine will? Deep within us, we are all spiritually encoded to bring love to earth.'
'Spiritually encoded to bring love to earth.' Yes, that's what life's all about. It's not about what we get out, although we often tend to think it is. It’s about what we put in. It's about leaving this world a better place than it was when we came into it. About letting our Light shine in the darkness, and transforming what is dark into what is Light. That's why we are here.
Life on earth is so fragile. We may live till we're 100, or we may die tomorrow. Life as we know it may survive the results of our collective human madness, or it may not. What else can we do then, but realise that what matters is not how long we live, but, simply, how we live? The quality of light and love we bring to each moment is the only thing that matters, for now is the only time we have.
The other day, we were thinking about this idea at a moment when we were feeling rather sad and low. We were sad because our friend was in trouble. How can we bring light and love into this moment, we asked ourselves, when we feel so miserable because our friend is sad? In fact, how can we ever feel joy and light, when so many of our brothers and sisters the world over are suffering terribly? But then, talking about it together, we realised that, as human beings of pure intent, it is our birthright to be able to transform whatever we encounter into more love and more light.
So we could feel joy not because we had forgotten, momentarily, about the world's pain, or our friends pain, but precisely because we remembered! By letting ourselves feel the love and joy that constantly pours from the divine wellspring in our hearts, and at the same time remembering the world's pain, we could transform it and, in some small way, bring healing.
With much love from all of us.
