As the colourful days of autumn give way to the stark and stunning days of winter, take time to make peace with your soul, reflect and assess the passing year, and anticipate the future. Often under stress at this time of year, we may find it helpful to give our immune systems extra support. A holistic approach can be to bring a focus and awareness to the five senses.
Sight: Get out and observe the glory of winter in all her beauty. A few drops of Euphrasia diluted in water is a safe and soothing eyewash externally, or used internally at a 6c potency. For tired eyes, e.g. after computer use, try Ruta 6c.
Sound: Sing! Talk and listen. Use your voice in positive ways. Tell people how much you love them. Play a CD – Bliss! Buy a wind chime and let the universe sing to you. For sore throats, gargle with diluted Echinacea, and take 15 drops internally together with vitamin ‘C', and zinc, daily.
Smell: Inhale and exhale with purpose: this is the breath of life itself. Smell the season: woodsmoke, mince pies, mulled wine and pine needles. Use aromatherapy as advised, with imagination. For blocked nasal passages from a mucous cold, try Pulsatilla 6c.
Taste: Drink water. Enjoy your food! Cooked with love and care it makes all the difference. Eat locally produced organic, seasonal food. For the symptoms resulting from an excess of eating or drinking, try Nux Vomica 6c.
Touch: Give balms and oils as presents. Nourish skin with vitamin ‘E'. Use your hands to soothe and comfort, be tactile; never underestimate the immune response to touch.
So, meet and share the company of family and friends, talk and listen to each other over a nourishing meal; pause to savour the aroma of freshly ground coffee or mulled wine and indulge in sumptuous chocolate cake or spicy minces pies. Hug each other and embrace love itself. All senses will be invoked – resulting in an amazing, healing immune system response!
