As we approach Spring, and particularly the two weeks before the equinox, March 21st, our bodies prepare for change. The energy flow moves from flowing up the back and down the front throughout the winter months, to now flowing up the front and down the back. We held our backs to the fire in winter, now we open up our hearts to the sun.
Bodily fluids become thinner, and lymphatic systems begin to carry out a gentle cleanse to release toxins that have accumulated. Many people are often unaware of this natural cleanse, perhaps noticing only that they have a ‘cold’, swollen glands, headache or runny nose: signs that the body is trying to let go of toxins, but may be needing a little help. Any assistance you offer your body now will be really rewarding; gentle cleansing will lighten the toxic load and increase vitality.
Body brushing encourages the lymphatics, and drinking plenty of pure water flushes toxicity away by creating movement between the cells. Two litres a day would be ideal. Remember, water means water, not tea, coffee or ‘other’!
Detoxification occurs through different routes in the body - lungs, liver, bowel, kidneys and skin - but as spring relates to the energies of the liver and gallbladder, particular attention to these organs at this time of year makes good sense, working with, and not against, the natural flow of the body.
The main tissue salt for the liver, which also stimulates the flow of bile, is Nat Sulph 6x (sodium sulphate). Buy the widely available New Era No.11 tissue salts and follow the instructions given.
Every garden seems to be blessed with the perennial dandelion, perhaps because we can all benefit from its healing properties. Its Latin name - Taraxicum - means ‘dis-order remedy’, helping both liver and gall bladder by stimulating bile flow into the digestive tract, reducing toxicity and congestion, aiding detoxification.
Make dandelion tea by picking and washing a few fresh leaves, chop finely and steep in boiling water; or try dandelion coffee or cordial.
Liver detoxing releases emotional energy too: anger is stored and released here. Anger is love in reverse. Unexpressed it finds no way out, becoming toxic to body and soul.
The energy of liver aids our life plan: when blocked, frustration and stagnation are the result. Nature once again comes to the rescue and flower essences gently reveal and heal, by bringing awareness and supporting the detox process. In the Bach Essences, try Holly for anger and jealous with a passion, or Wild Oat for anger when we have lost our way.
Homeopathically, Nux Vomica covers so many symptoms of anger and its disordered result in the digestive system. It is well worth keeping it handy!
So, when we detox, we push into a forward motion, expressing appropriately, encouraging love to find its place within the heart, expanding into a blissful awareness of purpose. Mind, body and soul in harmony.
Enjoy Spring’s arrival and gifts, open your heart energy to the sun - and shine.
