Dear Friends, There are such a lot of wonderful books in this magazine! Ones we’ve read from cover to cover in a single sitting, will re-read over time, and will keep in prime positions on our bookshelves.
Our Editor’s Choice is Shapeshifting, in which John Perkins describes his experiences with shamans in the Amazon and elsewhere, through which he learned a powerful technique of transformation which can be used to change not only situations, organizations and future possibilities but even, ultimately, our own form. The extract we have chosen to share with you from the book made a particularly strong impression on us, because it brings vividly alive answers to a question we have often asked ourselves: just how did humanity get torn away from its free, Earth-respecting origins, and sucked into the thrall of fear, desire and false beliefs, through which we are nowadays manipulated by those who lust only for power and wealth?
For our Book Circle selection we’ve chosen An Unlikely Prophet, which we really must recommend to you as a rich source of entertainment as well as food for thought! An extraordinary blend of autobiography, surreal fiction and spiritual wisdom, it is written by Alvin Schwartz, who was the main creator of the Superman character back in the 1940s. We’ve always loved the Superman stories because we felt they put us in touch with a sense of our own Higher Self. We thought this was just a personal point of view, but when you read An Unlikely Prophet, you’ll discover that this is what Alvin Schwarz actually intended!
This month’s recommended health title is pretty amazing, too. You may remember a piece we wrote last year about how we’d managed to free ourselves of the pain of a frozen shoulder, thanks to the insights we gained from a book called Healing Back Pain by Dr John E Sarno. Now, Dr Sarno has written an even more exciting book, extending his theory about how our minds make us ill to all kinds of physical ailments, not just back pain. Called The Divided Mind, it also includes contributions from a number of other American doctors who are using Dr Sarno’s techniques with dramatic results.
You'll find more features than usual in this issue of the Cygnus Review – we felt we just had to show you a little bit more of what’s special about the titles we've selected. We really do hope you’ll find the time to read them all. We know you’ll gain a lot from it if you do! And please tell us if you’d like us to continue having extra features in future.
So... please step inside. Enjoy. Be inspired. May you find what you need at this moment.
With many blessings and all our love, Ann, Geoff and the Cygnus Team
