 Dear Friends,
Have you ever noticed in yourself the tendency to feel guilty about making money, because of the subconscious idea that money-making is somehow materialistic and bad? I know we have and, like you, I expect, we’ve done a lot of work on ourselves to become inwardly open to the abundance of the universe, so that we can receive the material things we need to fulfil our spiritual goals, and be of service to others.
However, as with all spiritual growth, development happens in layers – as you peel one layer of obstruction off, you find another one underneath. And so it is with our openness to divine abundance. The old bogey of guilt still lurks at times, and there’s still more for us to learn about evaporating him! The lesson we’ve been on for quite some time now is learning to express our needs clearly to others, and not just to think them or ask the universe to supply them or – as a lot of people, especially women, do – forget our own needs altogether, until the circumstances of life compel us to remember.
A statement of intent
With that in mind, we think it would be a good thing to actually say to you what Cygnus is really all about, and what we’d like it to mean to you. Now I know a lot of you know that very well already! But we’d like to ask you to be our witnesses as we make this statement of intent. And perhaps, also, our statement will make it easier for you to tell other people about Cygnus, if you think they would benefit from it.
I guess that, since our main way of earning the money we need to produce the Cygnus Review is through selling books, it could be easy to see Cygnus as ‘just another money-making business’. We see ourselves like that too sometimes, in our darker moments, when we’re struggling to pay the bills! But the truth is, making money is not our main aim at all. We need money for one simple thing, and that is: to provide you – at an affordable price – with information, ideas and suggestions that will help you connect more deeply with your core purpose in life, and make the world around you a better place.
Making a difference
Our dream is that, in each issue of the Cygnus Review, you’ll want to buy at least one book you feel drawn to, that will, when you read it and put it into practice, make a significant, positive difference to your life, and the lives of those around you. The habit of reading can be a perfect way to widen our horizons and open ourselves to ideas that we may not yet have thought of, but that can heal us. After all, even if we’ve been studying these things for years and years, we’re never too old to learn, are we? And books can also help to remind us about things we know already; higher truths which, although we forget them often, we would prefer to remember every minute of every day.
My dad, Cygnus’s very first member, is now 90 years old and still mentally agile and extraordinarily healthy for his age. Reading is his favourite pastime, and he often tells me how much the books he has from Cygnus empower him to improve his life and health! And every week we receive letters from many more of you, saying the very same thing!
We also receive lots of enthusiastic letters about the Cygnus Review itself, and we’d like to share with you the idea behind it. All of us can, at times, feel bogged down in our habits of thought and belief, our obligations, and the difficult things that may be happening to us. In the end, you don’t even notice how bogged down you’ve become do you, until something happens to blow the cobwebs away? Well, when you sit down to read the Cygnus Review each month, our intention is that the articles in it will give you a breath of fresh air, a sense of space, helping you to break through the compacted soil of daily living so that you can see some solutions, which we’re sure are there for you. No doubt sometimes you’ll read things you don’t agree with at all (for Cygnus readers come in all shapes and sizes, and we try to cater for all of you!), and other things that may not touch you directly, but our dream is that you will always find something that speaks as if it was written just for you.
The Cygnus Review is free of charge, because it is the spiritual content we want you to have more than anything, and we feel deeply that spiritual gifts should be given freely. The paper, printing and postage, however, still need to be paid for of course.
