TRANSFORMING FROM CYGNET TO SWAN (August 2008)

Dear Friends
Welcome to our Star Titles collection, in which we bring all your favourite books of the last twelve months into one magazine – a real ‘bumper’ issue.

We’ve had a wealth of wonderful new titles this year, in an amazingly diverse range of subjects – orb phenomena, the Law of Attraction, mind-body effects and Celtic blessings to name but a few – yet all coming together at Cygnus, with the common ability to make a positive difference to your life, and the lives of those around you. So, among this rich collection, you will see that we have selected the most popular titles from each of our main subject categories and included them as Books for Giving, offering even more savings when you buy extra copies, so that it is easier for you to spread them around as widely as possible.

Anastasia
There are some new books in this issue, too: you will find a magical series of books that we’ve been working on getting for you for the last two years, and at last we’ve done it! Judging from the ever increasing number of requests we’ve had for them in recent months, we’re sure they will become instant favourites. Thanks to an exquisite new reprint by Ringing Cedars Press, we are thoroughly excited to tell you that we can now offer you all nine books of Vladimir Megré’s Anastasia, Ringing Cedars Series, which puts forward a wonderful new way of living that could offer a beautiful solution to so many of the problems – both spiritual and material – that humanity faces now.

Blossoming through challenge
August being the month of Cygnus’ birthday – we’re seventeen this year – we traditionally take a look back over the past year to see what it brought to us, and how we have developed. A major advance was the completion of our new-design website at New Year – incorporating lots of extra features – becoming one of the best Mind Body Spirit resources available online.

Within the Cygnus staff, Martyn and Sarah have taken over even more management and editorial responsibilities from Ann and Geoff, allowing them to put into practice a very potent piece of advice given them by the publisher Judy Piatkus: ‘Work on the business rather than in the business’. Caroline has been covering office supervision while Cath is on maternity leave (gorgeous baby Amber was born in April); Lauren has taken over website maintenance; Rachel has moved to assist Martyn in management and purchasing; and our three new Customer Care assistants – Mel, Jenny and Angharad – have melded into the team in an instant.

During recent months, many of us have faced the challenge of being nudged, or even wrenched, out of the ‘comfort zone’, taking on new roles and responsibilities, and positively blossoming now. With the right support and encouragement – from friends, colleagues, books (naturally) and the host of other forms of guidance we can call upon – it’s amazing what we’re capable of, as long as we make progress in manageable, but not necessarily comfortable, steps.

So, have confidence when you face your challenges: you’re being asked to face them because you are capable, because something within you shows that you already have all the potential that is needed to transform from cygnet to swan. Look in the mirror and see your strength and beauty, then stretch your wings, and fly!

Room to breathe
We now have no fewer than five regular contributors: Diana Cooper, William Bloom, Mary Wainwright and our two ‘new’ writers, Pierre Pradervand and Maddy Harland. Pierre had already written for us several times before his regular writings began, but now we have the benefit of much more of his spiritual wisdom. He is, of course, the author of Cygnus’ very first book publication, The Gentle Art of Blessing [140801], which shares his beautiful messages of unconditional love and benevolence. Maddy, editor of Permaculture Magazine, writes our environmental column, in which she explores ways of allowing true sustainability – greater harmony between heaven and earth – into our daily lives.

So, it’s no surprise that recently the magazine has been bursting at the seams, and our job to fit in everything we want has become more and more difficult each month. You’ll notice, then, that the magazine is a little thicker this month, because we’re taking the leap, growing from twenty to twenty four pages. We feel like letting out a huge sigh of relief, because we have room to breathe again, to provide space for all the books, articles, events and noticeboard items, without compromise.

Happy reading!

With much love, Sarah, Ann, Geoff and the Cygnus Team
